Askary Awards - Memories

The Askary Awards is being awarded to young photographers every year since 1997. We capture on this page the jubilant moments of these young talents as we look back into history.

2023 Askary Awards

The 2023 Askary Awards were presented during World Photography Day Celebrations; August 19, 2023 at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. The recipients for 2023 were Saanvi Vidhyshankar, Bengaluru & Kshama G, Bengaluru
by Sri A K Raju, A Distunguished Photo Artist.

2022 Askary Awards

The 2022 Askary Awards were presented on World Photography Day Celebrations; August 20, 2022 at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. The recipients for 2022 were Shravan BM, Mangalore & Vivek Gowda, Mangalore by Sri M S Hebbar, Senior Photo Artist.

2021 Askary Awards

The Askary Awards 2021 were presented on 21st August at Chitrakarala Parishat to Eshanya Sharma K R, Shivamoga & Karthik S Kargallu, Vittla, Dakshina Kannada.

2020 Askary Awards

Due to Covid-19, the Askary Awards 2020 were delayed and eventually presented on 21st August 2021 at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath to S A Nandan Hegde, Bengaluru & Athish Sanjay, Bengaluru by Dr. Shivakumar Begar , a renowned Yakshagana Artist.

2019 Askary Awards

2018 Askary Awards

The 2018 Askary Awards were presented during the World Photography Day on August 19, 2018. The recipients for 2018 were CHETAN GAONKAR from Bengaluru and RUBEN ALEXANDER also from Bengaluru.

2017 Askary Awards

The 2017 Askary Awards were presented during YPS International Digital Salon 2017 Exhibition held on August 19, 2017.

2015 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography has been awarded since 1997 to motivate young photographers from Karnataka State. The recipients for 2015 are UDAY TEJASWI URS from Bengaluru and RAKHESH KUMAR from Mangalore.

2014 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography has been awarded since 1997 to motivate young photographers from Karnataka State. The recipients for 2014 are THEJAS K.R and NEETHA RAMAN from Bengaluru.

2012 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography has been awarded since 1997 to motivate young photographers from Karnataka State. The recipients for 2012 are DIGWAS G.H and VINAYAKA S from Bengaluru.

2011 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography has been awarded since 1997 to motivate young photographers from Karnataka State. The recipients for 2011 are RAGHUPATHI and UDAY HEGDE from Bengaluru.

The two equal awards comprises of Askary Trophy, Cash prize of Rs 1500 and membership of Youth Photographic Society.

This year the contest was judged by eminent photographers of distinction Sri AK Raju, AFIAP and Sri S.Chandrashekar, AFIAP.

The theme selected by both photographers was pictorial. Both portfolios stood out for their excellent technique and compositions. The judges noted that the entries were of high quality considering that they were shot by young amateurs.

The awards were presented by the Chief Guest Sri. Narendra Babu, MLA – Rajajinagar who is a photo enthusiast along with distinguished nature photographer Sri. TNA Perumal, MFIAP, FRPS on 26th August 2011 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, No. 43, Race Course Road, Bengaluru.

2010 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography has been awarded since 1997 to motivate young photographers from Karnataka State. The recipients for 2010 are AKSHAY HARITH and RAMU M. both from Bengaluru. The two equal awards comprises of Askary Trophy, Cash prize of Rs 1500 and membership of Youth Photographic Society.

This year the contest was judged by eminent photographers of distinction Sri C. R. Sathyanarayana and Sri H. V. Praveen Kumar. The theme selected by both photographers was nature. Both portfolios stood out for their excellent technique and natural history value. The judges noted that the entries were of high quality considering that they were shot by young amateurs.

The awards were presented on 6th September 2010 at State Youth Center, Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore - 1.

2009 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography has been awarded since 1997 to motivate young photographers from Karnataka State. The recipients for 2009 are G. ARJUN HARITH and D. R. DEEPAK KUMAR both from Bengaluru. The two equal awards comprises of Askary Trophy, Cash prize of Rs 1500 and membership of Youth Photographic Society.

This year the contest was judged by eminent photographers of distinction Sri C. R. Sathyanarayan and Sri H. V. Praveen Kumar. The theme selected by Arjun Harith was wild-life of Karnataka, while Deepak Kumar captured remarkable images of Hampi monuments. Both portfolios stood out for their excellent technique and pictorial perspective. The judges noted that the entries were of high quality considering that they were shot by young amateurs.

The awards were presented on Wednesday, 19th August 2009 being World Photography Day at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Cource Road, Bengaluru.

2007 Askary Awards

Askary Awards for photography for the year 2007 have been announced. The Award winners are Lokesh S and S. Devendra Kumar, both from Bangalore. The photographic portfolios of both the winners had nature themes.

Askary Awards, awarded since 1997 are two equal awards, each comprising a cash award, trophy and membership of Youth Photographic Society of Bangalore. The awards are open to entrants below the age of 35 years and from Karnataka State. The objective of the awards is to encourage and motivate young talent to continue the tradition of the distinguished photographers of Karnataka.

The judges for Askary Awards 2007 were Sri K.S. Rajaram, Prof. M.S. Harish and Sri S. Chandrashekar. The judges commented that the pictures were of high standard and appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the participants. They added that photographic competency was considered apart from treatment of subject matter. The winning portfolios stood out for their technique and quality. They also appreciated the objective of the awards to encourage young local talent in Karnataka. Many of the past Askary Award recipients have made a name for themselves at the national level.

The participation from outside Bangalore city was significant as in past years. Entries were received from Mysore, Mangalore, Shimoga, Udupi, Dharwad, Kundapur, Sringeri and Chikmagalur.

The total number of photographs received this year was 124 from 30 entrants. The contest had an open theme with no entry fees. Most of the photographs entered were in color with Nature dominating the themes.
