Late Sri B S Sundaram

FRPS, FPSA, EFIAP, Hon.EYMCAPS, Hon.ECPA, 4*PSA (1935-2000)

B.S. Sundaram was a textile technologist turned photographer. He was a regular exhibitor in International Salons. His masterpiece ‘Survivors’ won seven gold medals and his ‘Rural Rhythm’ was specially selected for the historic collection of the FIAP. He was the first Indian to be awarded the Honorary Exhibitor of YMCA and CPA, prestigious photographic organizations in Hong Kong. His photographic works also figured in the Festival of India in Russia. His one man show – Soundarya held in 1986 was highly commended by art critics. For B.S. Sundaram, the subject matter was incidental, capturing the mood important.

A pictorialist must be true to himself and be an artist of integrity and honesty and not blindly move along the current hoping to succeed.

If one has no real roots for what he does within himself, he will keep groping in the dark all his life.

Landscapes and outdoor genre in monochrome interested him most, though he did child studies, nature, wild life, and colour photography. Among his photographs, ‘Horned Menace’ and ‘Survivors’ shall be remembered most.
