Born on 31 January 1910 in Kolkata, he started exhibiting in international salons when 28 and bagged many awards. His portfolio of child portraiture in high key and character studies in low key presented an excellent craftsmanship, versatility, style and technique. He was the founder member of Mysore Photographic Society (MPS) and contemporary of Late Dr. G.Thomas.
In 1996, after acquiring a modern zoom he wrote from "Dove"s Nest", his cottage in spacious surroundings,
I have pulled out my old photofloods and reflector bulbs. It gives me scope for portraits, which has been my main challenge.
I do not have the energy for setting up a darkroom and do my own processing
. In 1999 he swapped the compact for an SLR.
He commented, We retire in a profession, never in a hobby
.
A telegraphist by profession, TED was a great speaker and enthralled audiences in photo-clubs with his clear and informative talks. No doubt clearly evident with his talks at Shutter Bugs and YPS. Failing health prevented him from attending many functions that YPS invited him. He said he loved his second childhood, after decades of abstinence in which he was more into his first love - painting.
His closest associate was Mr. B.W. Benjamin, the nonagenarian photographer and nephew of Dr. G. Thomas.
D’Aguiar had a great love of life and he communicated this enthusiasm to all with whom he came into contact. His warm smile and by no means his wry sense of humour will be greatly missed.
